Home School Legal Defense Association
HSLDA provides legal assistance and advocacy for homeschooling families. Journey Christian Academy is an HSLDA Discount Group, so families connected to the Academy can join at a reduced membership rate.
Our HSLDA Discount Group number is 308071.

Home Educators Association of Virginia
HEAV is Virginia’s statewide homeschool organization. They publish guidance on Virginia homeschool law, run a “begin here” track for families starting out, and hold an annual convention in Richmond.
Virginia’s homeschool requirements
Home instruction in Virginia is governed by § 22.1-254.1 of the Code of Virginia. It sets out the annual Notice of Intent, the qualifying options for a parent providing instruction, and the end-of-year evidence of progress. The Notice of Intent is filed with your local division superintendent, not with the Academy.
We deliberately do not restate the requirements here. They change, and a secondhand summary on a school website is exactly the kind of thing that goes quietly out of date. Read them at the source, and use HEAV or HSLDA if you want them explained.
