Parents remain their child’s primary educator at Journey Christian Academy, which means the legal and administrative side of homeschooling stays with your family. These are the organizations we point families to.
Home School Legal Defense Association
HSLDA provides legal assistance and advocacy for homeschooling families.
A group membership discount is available to families registered with Journey Christian Academy. Registered families receive the details when they register.
Home Educators Association of Virginia
HEAV is Virginia’s statewide homeschool organization. They publish guidance on Virginia homeschool law, run a “begin here” track for families starting out, and hold an annual convention in Richmond.
Virginia’s homeschool requirements
Home instruction in Virginia is governed by § 22.1-254.1 of the Code of Virginia. It sets out the annual Notice of Intent, the qualifying options for a parent providing instruction, and the end-of-year evidence of progress. The Notice of Intent is filed with your local division superintendent, not with the Academy.
Taking part in Journey Christian Academy does not by itself satisfy Virginia’s home instruction requirements. Each family determines independently how to meet them.
